The solution of practical problems associated with the use of natural territorial complexes involves is a comprehensive study of the latter. It is important to determine the degree of anthropogenic transformation of natural territorial complexes, for which it is necessary to take into account various factors. Researchers, considering the priority in landscape studies, note the relevance of the development of the use of landscape indices in the study of anthropogenic impacts, the classification of anthropogenic modifications of natural complexes, landscape and environmental assessment of areas, etc. The article presents the analysis of a number of works of Russian-speaking authors, and also considers the results of foreign researches carried out in this direction. The article describes the methods of calculation and assessment of the degree of anthropogenic transformation of the natural geographical complex using the mathematical apparatus. The combined approach in an estimation of transformation of the geosystems, based on synthesis of domestic and western techniques, can be applied to natural territorial complexes of different hierarchical rank.
