The largest in the Astrakhan region Baskunchaksky deposit of gypsum is considered in this article. It is timed to nizhnehvalynskoy plain. The question of the formation and development of deposits related to tectonics Caspian depression is revealed. A detailed description of the geological structure of the gypsum quarry is given. Important varieties of gypsum and their characterization is given also. A number of activities to develop the deposits of gypsum taking into account the ecological status is proposed.
