Definition of a perevalny saddle as geomorphological concept is formulated. It is specified wide use of passes for transitions of people, transportations of various cargoes, transfers of the electric power and types of communication. The retrospective analysis of passes, as trading ways to ancient times, strategic objects is made during the Caucasian war in the XIX century, Civil and Domestic wars in the XX century. It is specified exclusive importance of the military roads constructed at the end of XIX and the beginning of the XX centuries which are used so far by various users.
